I consider myself craft impaired, since I can never seem to get my materials to cooperate with my aspirations. A few years ago I decided to try making a paper chain, because it had occurred to me that I could use the paper cutter to make even strips. So I tried. But, alas! They were flawed. If examined, an observer could tell that I had failed to make all the pieces equal, despite the aid of a paper cutter. Nor had the adhesive worked as I had hoped. But still, it looked like a paper chain. I showed the children; thankfully they recognized what it was without me having to explain. Later I reflected on this spiritual parallel: Our daily steps may lack consistency, our faith may sometimes falter—yet the overall picture of the Christian life should show an undeniable design, an obvious striving to pattern our lives after the perfect One—our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

  1. Such a beautiful parallel, Christine! I think I understand the way of it better now=) I've often wondered how anyone can be inspired by me as they say they are, if I have such inconsistencies. But I rejoice that the pattern can be glorifying to God!
