Perspective on Pizza
Ma and Pa Birdsall found themselves in a new predicament: Their little ones—Robin, Jay, and Phoebe—were not so little anymore and could fly off to various outings on their own. What to do?! One morning when Ma pondered a pizza supper the siblings planned to attend that evening, her son happened to mention that she must feel sad since he and his sisters would be gone later. Yes—in fact, she felt tears forming. Though Ma and Pa knew that they could go to the gathering too, they felt compelled to let the three stretch their wings. But wait—Ma and Pa still enjoyed pizza; suddenly Ma’s perspective changed and she noticed a joyful feeling bubbling up. That afternoon, Ma ordered a large pizza for Pa to pick up after work; together that evening, they sipped soda and smacked their lips at their own private pizza party. And before long, their not-so-little ones winged their way back to the nest for a good night’s rest.

  1. Aww I know the feeling. I loved having my little birdies in my own nest and was sad as each one grew wings and flew away. I dreaded the day they would all fly away.
But….surprise!!! They are all gone now and we absolutely love our “empty nest.” It almost feels like a 24/7 vacation, just my husband and me. We are having so much fun in our cozy little nest.

I’m glad you had a special little pizza party. May many more happy parties be in your future. 🤗

  2. Ah… the sadness and the joy when our children leave the nest. There’s sadness because we miss them so much and joy because of the peace that envelops the home. We need to be sure to teach them to be independent of us because there will come a day when we will not be here to (((((provide for them or help them when they are in distress. We need to teach them to depend on God, El Roi, the one who sees us.
